Hiking tours

Hiking in Cape Town is one of the easiest, yet the most invigorating outdoor activity that can be done by almost anyone.  No matter where you're staying, there is sure to be a hiking trail within a stone's throw of your accommodation and each trail promises to have spectacular views with unspoilt vegatation.  With the numerous trails around the Cape, you have an array of choices - from 1 or 2 hour walks to half day and even full day excursions.  Whichever you choose, you will not be disappointed, as our trails are uncrowded, well marked and abounding in indiginous vegatation and birdlife.  Whether you're looking for waterfalls or ravines, caves or over-hangs, lush forest-like vegatation or diverse fynbos, the hiking trails of the Cape has it all.

Table mountain full day hike

Many of the half day hikes up Table mountain can be done as a full day hike, and again, even these can be done unguided.  Beetle Adventure tours is happy to provide a guide should you wish to do a full day Table mountain hike.

The BAT Adventure hike - reccommended full day hike

This is a hike which no other tour company offers as it is well off the beaten track and more than 50km out of the city.  Yet it is one of the most exciting hikes around the Cape as it provides amazing vegetation, rock formations and scenery. And if you're an adrenalin junkie, there's lots of opportunities to leap off the cliffs into the mountain pools.
We start at the river mouth and follow the trail as it winds it's way along the river. The trail is rated as moderate to difficult as there is quite a bit of clambering up slopes and over bolders. The trail passes a few mountain pools (of untold depth), where you can stop and swim.  There are many small waterfalls along the way.  The trail itself ends at an impressive waterfall with an amazing view all the way back to the ocean.  Bring along a mask and snorkel as you often find "treasure" in the pools.

Itinerary (for BAT Adventure)

You'll be picked up at your hotel between 7.30 and 8.00 a.m.before heading out of Cape Town to False Bay.  Once we reach the mountain, we'll have a short snack break, overlooking the bay.  If we're lucky we might spot the resident school of dolphins as they head out on their breakfast run. We head on further, bordered by the spectacular rust coloured sandstone mountain on one side, and the rugged coastline on the other.
About 5kms further on, we'll arrive at the start of the trail where we'll prepare and get the necessary documentation.
The walk starts off relatively easy and becomes more challenging as the gorge gets narrower.  We'll need to do a fair bit ofclambering up and over boulders, but the awesome vegatation and rock formations makes it all worthwhile.  The entire route will take about 2 hours as we'll stop for bio-breaks at the mountain pools where you might want to spend some time swimming or jumping from the cliffs.  The end of the trail is situated beneath a 60m high waterfall.  Here we'll spend a couple of hours having a light lunch, swimming, snorkelling and just chilling out.
The walk back is considerably quicker and again we'll stop for a snack before you are dropped off at your hotel.
